360-degree videos and images are recordings where a view in every direction is recorded simultaneously; this way, the viewer has video and images all around. This is what we call Immersive. Immersive video and image have been around in different forms for decades, but it hasn’t been able to break through on a large scale until recently.
Now you can use 360 Video and Images with Fectar! We Use the equirectangular format. Currently, the only format Fectar Supports.
Important: 360 images and videos can have a max upload resolution of 2000X4000 and 500 MB in the file size. 360 video will be compressed. This way the lower end devices will also be able to play the 360 Video's
What is equirectangular projection?
Equirectangular projection unwraps a 360-degree image into a sphere. The Equirectangular projection is the default output format of a panorama camera equipped with a fisheye lens like the RICOH THETA. Equirectangular projection unwraps the sphere, mapping the longitude to the X coordinate and the latitude to the Y. Here is a familiar example, the globe laid flat:
When you capture a 360 Video or Image with a 360 Camera using the Equirectangular projection, your image will look like this:
And when you use the 360 images inside Fectar, it will look like the interactive image below.
