SketchUp is a 3D modeling computer program for a broad range of applications.
The program is currently available as a web-based application as SketchUp Free and a paid version with additional functionality, SketchUp Pro. For this workflow, SketchUp Pro is required.
Export SketchUp models to glTF
Step 1. Open SketchUp Pro
Open the project you want to export.
Step 2. Install the glTF exporter extension
In the navigation tab, go to Extensions and click on Extension Warehouse.
Type in glTF in the search bar
There are multiple options, paid and free. So feel free to use the one you want. For this example, we will use SketchUp glTF Exporter.
Click on Install
Click Yes. It warns you that the plugin is not supported with version 2022. After that, the plugin works just fine.
You get a warning that this plugin can write files your hard disk. However, it only writes when you export a file. For the plugin to work, you have to click Yes. So I click Yes.
The plugin is now successfully installed. Click on OK to continue.
Step 3. Export your model to .glb
In the navigation tab, go to Extensions > SKP glTF Exporter > Export Binary glTF 2.0 (glb)
If you have a very large scene, exporting to glTF could take a very long time and even freeze your PC. So make sure that you have saved all your progress!
The demo scene is very light so there will be no problem there. So I will click Yes.
Navigate to the place you want to save your file
Important! You have to manually type ".glb" behind the name of your file! Then you can click on save.
You will get an overview of the exported file, the number of triangles, verticals, materials etc.
Step 4. Upload your 3D model in Fectar Studio
You can upload this ".glb" file in Fectar Studio and assign it to the glTF spot. If you need more information about this step, you can read more about this step in this article:
